Compassion - The Gateway to Love
People don't always understand love, if it could be understood at all. I see it as more than simply a biological condition. Animals express affection, but animals and people who have been wrongfully mistreated, abused, may have difficulty expressing affection. Does that mean they don't love? No, it does not. They love in their own ways, which may not be perceived as love by others. Who can judge what love is? It's common for people to be fooled into thinking they're experiencing love, when in fact they're not. To get a better understanding of love, let's start with compassion.
There are times when one can be surrounded by evil. We do not have compassion for evil. Here's an example. Suppose you're hearing discouraging and condemning voices that intend to hurt your feelings. You don't see anyone talking, but you can hear these voices. It's not surprising for you because you've heard similar voices like them before. Their pattern is familiar. They always talk about the same thing and react in the same way. They want something from you, and because you will not give it to them, they say hurtful things to try and trigger you, trigger your hurtful feelings, as best they can. Their timing is perfect for causing the most distress and robbing you of your good feelings. These are demon spirits, that could be connected to people, or simply astray. How can we use compassion in this situation? This is a time for showing compassion to ourselves.
Compassion is an incredibly powerful emotion that makes the best changes in reality, but we need to use it carefully. We don't want to be taken advantage of, used, nor exploited because we've shown compassion. We also don't want to mislabel a particular action as compassionate when it's not. Some situations for compassion may require subterfuge. However, we can always be mindful of compassion, and be compassionate to others and/or ourselves. Then, without any additional effort, love finds us. Perhaps it's because there are more angels than demons around.
